Olrik's place

Javascript is disabled. This is fine. It was just here to show a random "funny" tag line in a fancy yellow "sticker". But now, you get a longer personal message. Almost in admiration of refusing modern techniques. I actually wasn't going to add Javascript at first, since I wanted to make this as simple and accessible as possible. Older browsers probably don't do too well with JS. But then again, the front-end of this website DOES have the latest techniques, so an older browser won't work anyway.

Who

Some random guy with a tiny bit of extra time on his hands. I like tinkering, understanding how things work. I like learning about systems: the interaction of components and the influence on the things around them. So not only technology, but things like climate, politics, communities... you name it.

Somehow, I ended up liking the stories of E. P. Jacobs, specifically the character of Olrik. An adventurer with a penchant for ambitious undertakings. A villain to some, but a man bold enough to try to reshape the world.

Why

This place is not really useful. Well, for me it is. It is a place for some creativity to flow to. It lets me braindump things without shoving it in people's faces. Like on GeoCities. But with the added pleasure of maintaining a homelab to run this on.

How

Just HTML, CSS and a tiny bit of decorative JS. No back-end. Even the visitor counter is not really backed by anything. This thing is running off of 8-year old hardware in my attic. On occasion, it goes down. No apologies. Old hardware and fire hazard overlap in some Venn diagram, I imagine. Risk and adventure, Olrik would appove.
